Week two in the books.

Team CrossFit

2821st Place

In The World

Week two has come and gone, and with the announcement of 18.3, let’s reflect on our previous weeks performance. Can Team Grey keep the lead going into 18.3? Let’s find out.

Just like 15.1, 18.2 was a two part workout that requires athletes to hit a heavy 1 Rep Max lift after a devastating conditioning piece. We know you can lift heavy, but can you do it under duress? This workout will count as two separate events, meaning athletes who are unable to finish the first portion will take a zero for the second half. Not only will this workout challenge you but it’s sure to shake up the in-house leaderboard. For once, Dave Castro’s clues were spot on, this one burned. 55 dumbbell front squats and 55 burpees over the barbell had our throats and legs on fire. We recently performed a dumbbell front squat workout with a similar amount of volume, and we’ve been cleaning heavy, often, in our Open Prep Cycle. The hard work and constant exposure to dumbbells have given us a level of familiarity with the recommended weights (55# and 35#) causing the vast majority of athletes to go Rx in 18.2. In fact 97{1940372cbfdcb8bf807c3b02a8561d6fffe36d3bf98756e2cd8b81c68f409023} of our Men went Rx, meanwhile 71{1940372cbfdcb8bf807c3b02a8561d6fffe36d3bf98756e2cd8b81c68f409023} of our Women went Rx this week. Even more impressive was the fact that the entire Team Grey Men’s division went Rx.

Team Grey’s Rx Men averaged 252 reps, and Team Black ‘s Rx Men averaged 270 reps. Team Grey’s ladies pulled through with 10 Rx ladies averaging 207 reps, beating out Team Black’s 14 Rx athletes who averaged 195 reps.

Our participation was still on point in week 2. Can we hold on, because week 3 is when people generally start to fall off. Team Black had 42 athletes (93{1940372cbfdcb8bf807c3b02a8561d6fffe36d3bf98756e2cd8b81c68f409023}) complete 18.2, an increase of 2{1940372cbfdcb8bf807c3b02a8561d6fffe36d3bf98756e2cd8b81c68f409023}. While Team Grey had a decrease in participation dropping from 97{1940372cbfdcb8bf807c3b02a8561d6fffe36d3bf98756e2cd8b81c68f409023} to 95{1940372cbfdcb8bf807c3b02a8561d6fffe36d3bf98756e2cd8b81c68f409023} this week with 43 of 45 athletes participating.

SPIRIT POINTS

Team Black came strong in week 2. There was no doubt that they took the spirit award this week with a bombardment of positive vibes and camaraderie in the form of a team entrance and warmup. Can the Team Grey captains, Francesca and Tony, turn this around or will Team Black once again show the world that spirit is the key to victory.

PODIUM

While Team Black was spending their time painting their faces and drawing up signs, team Grey attacked 18.2, dominating the leaderboard. Team Grey took 22 podium spots, leaving team Black with only 16 spots. This could very well have been the deciding factor in this weeks challenge.

Team Black easily took the spirit award in week 2 which once again helped keep Team Black in the running. Team Grey doubled down on the fact that podium and participation points were doubled this week and dominated the leaderboards. Despite the runaway efforts by Team Grey, Team Black managed to hold them at bay with the spirit points being the deciding factor. Can Team Grey fight off a decrease in participation and lack of spirit? Can they turn it around in week 3 to run away with the competition? We’ll find out next week.
